![]() He began his career with Uniphone Usahasama Sdn. Bhd. as Planning Engineer where he was responsible for planning of Telecom Line Plant Network within Kuala Lumpur. Seeking greater exposure, in 1988 he joined Ranhill Bersekutu Sdn. Bhd., a consulting engineering firm and was posted as Resident Engineer (RE) for the Pelangi Beach Resort project in Langkawi and thereafter upon completion of the project he was assigned as the RE for the re-development of the Ipoh airport. Wanting to be involved in a major privatisation project in Malaysia, he joined Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan Berhad (PLUS) as M&E engineer in 1989. During his initial years with PLUS, he was involved in the construction of the 900-km North-South Expressway (NSE) (approx. RM6 billion) which was completed within 5 years. On completion of the NSE, he was made responsible for traffic safety operations. He was also responsible for development of public facilities such as new rest and service areas, new laybys, new interchanges, overhead bridge restaurants and extension of toll plazas on the completed NSE. He was also involved for the widening of the KL-Seremban stretch of the NSE from 2-lane to 3-lane. He was the Senior Manager heading the Projects Management Dept., when he left PLUS in 1996. After 7 years in PLUS, in July 1996 he took up the challenge to start-up a new privatised highway project as General Manager with Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Berhad (LITRAK), a subsidiary of Gamuda Berhad. LITRAK is the concessionaire for the privatisation of the 40-km Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP). As the General Manager, he was involved in the planning, project management and construction of the LDP, managing public relations, setting-up of Litrak's highway organisation and operations structure in preparation for the completion of the LDP. The Damansara-Puchong Highway was completed 6 months ahead of time and at the cost of RM1.4 billion. In February 2002, he was given the responsibility to complete the construction for the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 (SSP3) project under Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Berhad (SPLASH), an associate company of Gamuda Bhd. He managed the completion of the project which comprises of 2 water treatment plants at Batang Berjuntai and Rasau with a combined production capacity of 1,000 mld and a dam (600 ha.) at Kuala Kubu Bharu. The SSP3 project was completed on time and at the cost of RM2.2 billion. When he joined KLSEB in April 2003, he had more than 14 years experience in three major privatisation projects namely the NSE, LDP and SPLASH. The KLS Expressway project is estimated at the cost of RM990 million.
